Montana State-led project receives $20 million for prescribed fire research

Montana NSF EPSCoR awarded $20 million to launch SMART FIRES, a statewide collaboration led by Montana State University. The project combines sensors, AI, machine learning and community engagement to study prescribed fire, monitor smoke in real time, improve fire management and reduce wildfire risks for Montana communities.
